Logie Life April 2023

Cheerio from Jane and Colin!

Finally,  we have managed it! Three families within one house have packed up nineteen years of possessions and memories. The end of an era for Powis House and we will go down in the long list of residents from the 1400’s.

We have had an incredible time at Powis and have been very privileged to have been part of its history.  We have had some fantastic parties, four weddings and two funerals (no Hugh Grant though). We have had wonderful neighbours and friends and great community events within the village. We have raised cattle: two Highland supplied by Kelso Logan as my 50th Birthday present; two Shetland Cattle and pigs, with food supplemented by Blairmains; turkeys; chickens and countless numbers of sheep. By providing B&B, we met people of all nationalities from all over the world.  We even had two couples from Argentina, who by coincidence lived in the same town, knew the same places, but not each other! It has always been hard work, but it was all worth it.

Fighting the pylons got us all together. Personally, my time spent working with John and Elma and all the staff at Blairmains has been invaluable; it was a great way to integrate into the Logie community, their friendship and support over the last eighteen years of working  has been rewarding.

I had hoped to either have a leaving do, or at least to get round to see folk before we left, but at the crunch, it was such short notice that any sort of sanity or normality was in short supply to organise anything but packing a box. However, I would like to say thanks to you all for the good times. Limekilns, where we have moved to, is only 35 minutes' drive, so if you are over that way, come and see us, or else I am sure we will see you again.  Our address is 22 Halketts Hall, Limekilns. I can always put the kettle on or the pub is 3 doors down.

The new owners of Powis are young and enthusiastic James and Jenny McErlean, who I am sure will care for Powis House as much as we did.

I am sure that we will see many of you again! Take care

Jane and Colin

100 Club

Congratulations to Jenny Jennings as winner of the 100 Club with lucky number 27.

From our local birdwatcher Mike Allen

One of the not so good joys of Spring.

A wagtail has been busy marking out its territory. It can be quite aggressive to other wagtails on its territory, flying at them and even scattering its droppings over the rival.

Unfortunately for one wagtail, it has mistaken its mirror image for a rival. The mirror is on the corner by the play park. I have cleaned it up already this month and already it is showered with droppings.
